Find me on these old Zelda Fan Art websites as Ida Dragmire!

Hi everyone!
Wow another 2 years before my next journal update! I've been sew(!) busy outside of the internet, that I don't really have time to post many updates anymore.
However, I decided to give a small update for a new project I've been working on for the Ripley Unconventional Art Contest.

I present to you: Soft Boy!

Soft Boy by tavington

I will give a short summary on why I chose to make this piece of soft sculpture in the deviation itself, but here, I thought I would share the making process and what exactly I do on my machine to create items like this.

HOW I CREATED SOFT BOY

Steps1 by tavington

Firstly, I created a template by printing out various sheets of A4 paper and sticking them together like a jigsaw. I then traced over the lines using a Sharpie marker onto a large sheet of Reynold's Freezer Paper.
I ironed this paper onto my fabric underneath (which was a patchwork hodge-pogde of textures, fabrics and grey colours!)
Once the Freezer Paper was ironed on, I stitched all over the lines I'd just drawn. Sometimes for the trickier, rounded lines and letters I switched to a free-motion quilting foot. Once all of my lines had been sewn over, I carefully tore off the Freezer Paper, picking out paper stuck under stitches with a small pin.

Steps2 by tavington

Once all the paper was off, it was time to decorate with stitching! You can see on the left-hand side of the photo above, that I had my free-motion quilting foot on, and I had just finished embroidering the letters on the front of the sculpture. Once different parts of the embroidery were complete, I started working on the 3D buttons.

Steps3 by tavington

The 3D buttons were the trickiest part to this piece and all had to be sewn onto the main structure by hand. I originally wasn't going to venture into more 3-dimensional territory, but I wanted to replicate the original as accurately as I could, so I chose to invest a little more time in them.
Once these buttons were complete, I started work on the back of the unit, adding the battery compartment, buttons to replicate screws, and the cartridge slot. I then pinned it to the sides of the console and stitched it all together.

Steps4 by tavington

After all of sewing was complete, it was time for stuffing! This gigantic piece took over 1kg of stuffing to fill, and took me about an hour to fill and close. I was very pleased with the end result though!
Now, where is it going to live? Any takers? :D (Big Grin)

Hi everyone!

Gosh, it's been 2 years since my last journal update. A lot has happened since then!

As you may have guessed, I generally don't use deviantART very much anymore, and I'm more active over on other social media such as  TUMBLR. and my personal FACEBOOK
I've tried to get using TWITTER a bit more too

As for other things, I have been extremely busy on other projects. Mainly for the past couple of years I've been concentrating on my
Etsy store, which has really taken off. I have been doing personal commissions, and one or two events a year, usually somewhere local to me.
I've also done a few pieces for Nintendo of Europe for game promotions. They were Twilight Princess HD and Monster Hunter.
You can find pictures of these projects over on my tumblr here and here

My piece The Mockingbird was featured in the Game of Thrones gallery in London's Bethnal Green this month!

Isaac Hempstead-Wright, who plays Bran Stark, picked the winners and I was one of the 10 lucky ones! I won a copy of Season 6 on DVD as well as having my work displayed in the pop-up gallery.

You can see a few more gallery pictures over on my Tumblr here

It was a wonderful experience, one I won't be forgetting any time soon :)

As for other news, not much else has really been happening. My boyfriend and I have been together for almost a year and man how that time has flown by. I'm not quite sure where this year has gone, to be honest. It's all been a bit of a blur.

I took on some extra commissions over the summer as I bought him an extra special 40th birthday present back in May :D
He's a huuuuge Queen fan, and I saved up to buy him a replica Red Special guitar. (I think he was over the moon!)

Well, I think that about sums up what's been happening lately. Sorry again to all my followers for falling off the face of the earth again!

I'm taking a commission break over Christmas, so I'll try and be a little more active on here and have some down time too.

Let me know what you've all been up to! Do you still use DA nowadays or are you using different social media now too?

Hi everyone!

Just a little friendly nudge to say I am still here, I have just been extremely busy with the Etsy shop since September last year.

I am for the moment, taking a break from it to concentrate on my traditional drawing and sculpting again. It will be nice to pick up the Prismacolors after such a long time!

I am also wanting to get involved in a few sketch trades and the like, to get back into drawing again. If anyone is interested in trading with me, please send me a note :3

Apart from art, not much has been going on in life. Still being creative, working the daily grind, and playing a few games here and there.

Hoping that I might meet my Prince Charming before I'm 40, but now holding up any high hopes for that right now haha!

How are all you guys doing? It's been far too long! I'm going to try and be around DA a lot more in the next few months, so I'll probably bombard you all with new art XD

Guys I finally have an Etsy shop!

Thank you for voting in my poll! I am hoping to update the shop very soon with new items, but for now, take a look at some of the items I currently have in stock that I don't necessarily put up here on deviantart:

Tavington's Crafty Corner

If you see anything wrong or mistakes on the shop, please let me know.
Thank you for your continued support!

EDIT
// New Journal! I'm just learning how to figure it out, as I haven't updated since January XD

Thank you all for the features with my N64 Pillow! Wow! I woke up with a mass of notes, comments, favourites and features on multiple blogs and websites, I was completely overwhelmed!

*I have good news on the commission front for these too. I have now ordered a new batch of light grey fleeces to make lots more, and other console pads as well! :D

My next commission is another console pad, but I'm not revealing which one just yet!

If anyone is interested in owning a console pad pillow, please don't hesitate to send me a note and I will reply to you.

Thanks again! I'm really flattered you guys like my latest endeavours into sewing and appliqué!
